ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ was one of only five UK universities to welcome a special delegation from Japan this month.
ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ was selected along with Oxford, Liverpool, Leeds and Reading to host the delegation, offering an important opportunity to develop global partnerships and encourage international exchange in education between the two countries.
18 senior staff from leading universities across Japan spent an afternoon touring ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ's King Alfred Campus and finding out more about its teaching, research, mission and values. Japanese universities represented included the Tokyo Institute of Technology and Kyushu and Nagasaki universities.
Professor Joy Carter, Vice-Chancellor of the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, said: "We have been welcoming Japanese students to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ for many years and it is a great honour to host this British Council delegation. The visit offers an opportunity to strengthen our partnerships in the country, as well as to deepen delegates' understanding of the UK higher education system and the internationalisation initiatives of British universities."
ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ already has educational links with Japan: study abroad or exchange programmes see 35 Japanese students come to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ to study for a semester or up to a year. The University is also home to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Shoei College which welcomes students from Tokyo to study foundation courses and degree programmes at the University.
